Replace light in Bedroom

Hi Have some basic light fittings in bedroom as seen in attachment. Was looking to do some monor overhauls to replace the light fixings with something nicer. Was wondering can these fittings be replaced by flush mount ones and what peoples ideas are for bedroom lighting.
