Second viewing of house - who to bring?

    Hi,
We are interested in a house that has been empty since Christmas. It is in a bit of disrepair anyway but has good potential we think. If the work is just cosmetic, great. But we're not very qualified to say if it is or not. So before we go sale agreed (if we even got that far) and get a structural survey, we'd like to know if it's a money pit or a good buy. So my question is, who should we bring to help us with our decision. Would an engineer do this kind of thing (as I said, we're not looking for a survey yet, just a verbal opinion on the house)? Or maybe a builder? Someone who might spot issues that we can't. Any thoughts or advice? Thanks

Take an engineer and get the survey done, it's not going to be much cheaper than getting one out for a visit anyway and who knows what they'll miss doing half a job. The other option is if you know a builder but again it's going to be a cursory opinion worth only the few beers you're pay.
