Leaving a new job after two weeks for a better job

    Hi,
I recently started a new job part time (about a week ago) but now I have been offered a better job that is closer to my home and I would really like to take it.

I know its not fair of me to mess around my current employer like this but taking this new job would make things significantly easier for me.

Can I do this? What do I do about tax as I have just submitted my p45 to my current employer?

    Of course you can.

Same as you did for your current job.

How long would it take for my current employer to give me my P45? Would it be immediate?

    Thanks for the reply

Technically they should give it to you on the day you leave, but nobody will enforce that. At the earliest it's when they next process their payroll, but you'll not likely be a priority.

You can be put on emergency tax with your new employer.

You don’t need your P45. As long as you have your new employers tax number, you can just ring revenue and they’ll sort it for you.
Good Luck in the new job.

Ok grand. Well I'm paid weekly so it should be soon enough. I wasn't sure if I could just leave on the spot or not. It's my first job in Ireland.

By law you have to give a minimum one week's notice to your current employer. You cannot leave on the spot.

    One weeks notice is fine.

Because I've been working there for less than 13 weeks I think I don't have to give any notice at all actually.

You're right, tell me again why you started the thread?

Because I was wrong, I didn't pick up on the less than 13 weeks work. Yeah, I should have, but you know...
