Sorry if this has been posted already, but I've been offered the job of polling clerk for the upcoming referendum. Does anybody know how much this pays? And also how does one avoid being heavily emergency taxed for it? It's just one days work. Thanks

How do referendum staff vote if they work at a station that differs from their home station?

They sort out a postal vote for you if needed. Usually for a referendum, they transfer your vote to the station you're working at.

Hi, just seeking info regarding the forthcoming presidential election.
If an individual worked as a polling clerk for the May referendum will they automatically be offered a position for next month or is it safer to reapply online with the returning officer to secure a position?

Positions have been sent out for next month. Got my letter last week and I worked the May one

Thanks for your reply, I have just been informed by someone else in the know that they have only sent out letters for PO's and Supervisors and that clerks have not been notified yet. You were not a clerk by any chance?

Yes I was a clerk and that's what my letter has on it.

Just wondering if you need to reapply each time there's a vote? Are you automatically contacted if you've worked or applied before? Thanks

If you have worked before as a poll clerk you automatically get contacted agin to work in the next referendums/election.

The delay might possibly be due to different sheriff offices I'm in Dublin county for example

Can anyone conform the pay for this on Oct 26th? Seeing lots of different variations online. I was offered a position today in Dublin from 6.30 am til 10 pm.

Gross pay in May for the same hours as above for a clerk was €361

How or when do you apply for this?

On the application it asks about current employment status and gives public servant as an option in addition to full time employed, self employed etc. Is there any bias for or against public servants for these positions?

Its about €300 something. If emergancy tax is applied, you can get it refunded on your next payslip of other job (if you have one) after application through revenue, otherwise you may have to wait till January.

When did this come into place? Worked as a Clerk in the 2011 election, but never got a call back. Think the policy then, was that they were going for students/unemployed (as I was), rather than the usual faces who had done it years previously, apart from one or two experienced clerks/officers per booth/centre.

Look up the returning officer for your local county. Usally though the Court House, or County Council.

They deduct the pension related deduction from the pay if you're a public servant.

Did anyone who worked the presidential election get a letter yet for next month?

It varies by which local authority you are operating within but given that not all local candidates have submitted papers, I doubt that letters will be sent out until the 1st or 2nd week of May. If you worked in October you will be contacted again
