Sickeness since last night, burst water at 7:30, making no attempt to calf so pulled him out at 8:30, very quick & easy pull

Get blood tests from the cow and the calf off for an autopsy. You might end up with inconclusive results. Had 2 abortions in the same night once and multiple vets and tests found nothing.

Take calf and cleaning to the lab 2moro. Ring vet first to book it in. Possible just a hurt could be any number of reasons

Calf born dead and cows making no effort to calve sounds like it could possibly be an iodine deficiency..

    Peter.
Re your Q about the cost of Dept Lab Test.
Took a three-month calf for Autopsy in 2017.
Was charged circa 30 euro by Dept for Autopsy + Disposal fee.
As referred to the good advice above, suggest book animal thru your Vet.& agree with lab the time of arrival of the animal.
For the Lab work & results given, think it was well worth the costs, to know what happened the calf.
    Best Of Luck
    P

Shame about that. Could the rotavac vaccine be an issue here?

Id blood test the cow and 3/4 more dry cows and see what minerals they are lacking etc. I have a feeling your very low in iodine. Also your silage quality might be poor? Maybe v give them some oats. I find oats wonderful for dry cows.

Sorry I got them mixed up I meant to as if you did them for Lepto? I know it can cause earlier abortions but would it possibly cause something like this too?
