I see that the rent limit to receive Rent allowance as a single person in my area is set at 420 euros.
How is it possible to receive help with rent with this number set so low?.
There are no properties anywhere near that amount.
Even one bedroom apartments are 650 euros upwards if you can even get one.
Am I missing something?. Does that mean they can contribute 420 euros to a larger amount?.
I hear people talking about having this help alot but I don't understand how they can get it.

It's actually the maximum allowable but then you subtract your minimum weekly contribution so it's usually less than 420 depending on circumstances

    Thanks for the reply.
So basically it's not possible to get rent allowance??.
There are no properties available at that price for over 10 years.
What is the purpose of having this when nobody can avail of it?.

People do avail of it and have done for years but in the current climate it's getting really difficult for people on Rent supplement to find properties they can afford to rent ,

Your maximum is €420 -€120 for your own minimum contribution your rent supplement comes to €300 pm ,
    so they pay
Only 300 towards the rent ,have you looked into the HAP scheme which is replacing rent allowance

Rent allowance is finished in the county I’m in, and in many other counties.
SW no longer have anything to do with housing need.
You need to establish wether or not it’s even open to new applications where you are.

HAP allows you to make a bigger contribution from your own pocket towards the total rent cost. So if the rent limit is 420 but you can only find a place for 620 you can contribute 200 euro yourself towards the cost. You can also earn more money with HAP than under RA.
