Autism FM has been broadcasting on 105.2 in Dublin and 106.7 in Cork this week.
Its on the air to April 8th and then returns from 23rd to 29th April.

The station is a joint venture between Autism Ireland and Heartbeat FM Radio Services.

Interestingly Heartbeat FM radio services was set up on the 29th April 2015 and its directors are Joseph Rossa and Nathalie Rossa.

I don't see any obvious link to the original Heartbeat 95.5FM from the 80s.

The website for Heartbeat gives a history of the station starting when it was a pirate and its temporary license run in 2010 and mentions pirate founder Tony O'Hara more than once. Looks like the same station to me, just in a different medium.

By the way, I'm pretty sure that Joseph Rossa and Joe Doyle are one and the same person. Joe Doyle came on board the pirate Heartbeat in the '90s when it relaunched and he was involved with it just over 10 years later as a temporary licensed station.

Joe Doyle has mentioned on air before that he is Joe Rossa , Radio Dublin provided transmission facilities for Heartbeat in the 90s and Joe was involved in the community station 9/7/11.

Are they the same entity ? - the registration of the company is only recent (after Heartbeats temp licence) and there is no mention of Tony O'Hara on the directors listing. IIRC there was a 'cara' company trading as Heartbeat at one stage??

Heartbeat in the 90's came some time after Joe left Radio Dublin. Given the bad blood between Joe and Eamon I can safely say that there was no co-operation between the two stations. Joe and Tony used of the old studio over Ziggy's in Dolphin's Barn and to be fair, they gave it a go but the station didn't last.

Joe and Tony were behind the temp in 2010. No idea why Tony wasn't listed as a director. I know that Joe sells a service of running temp stations; maybe it's his company?

As an aside, David Baker had a Heartbeat online in 2010 but "agreed" to let Joe and Tony use the name online ;)

Joe was still on Radio Dublin up until 2003 though Eamon at this stage was incarcerated.

iirc they used a tx on 90.3 ?? with studios in Ziggys - the original studio equipment had been purchased by CKR btw.

AFAIK Joe was asked back to RD by Jane at some stage when Eamon wasn't around. Rumours abounded at the time that he took a hiding off a mob and had his leg broken but certainly some of the time was down to his detention and issues relating to his criminal trials :D

Incidentally, at one point in the '90s there were 2 pirates calling themselves Heartbeat! One was Tony O'Hara's relaunched love station with the aforementioned Joe Doyle. The other was led by Alan Hunter and was a successor or rename of a station that started as a split from Radio Dublin - Hit and Memories 101 and then KLAS and then Heartbeat. I believe Alan Hunter's one had appeared before the relaunch of the better known one. Now that's confusing as both Joe and Alan (and possibly Tony) had been with Radio Dublin at the beginning of the '90s! If that's not confusing enough, Maurice Nevins, who had been on the original '80s Heartbeat, left Radio Dublin to follow Alan to Hits and Memories and KLAS but joined Tony O'Hara's relaunched Heartbeat. Alan Hunter then renamed/relaunched his as The Irish Mix.

I thought that was ICE FM rather than Radio Dublin. I remember Joe Doyle was very put out on another forum when I suggested a direct connection there! He did go on to operate temporary licences over a number of years, which became increasingly country and Irish like ICE FM: IMR (Irish Music Radio) and then CIMR (Country Irish Music Radio) and then Hot Country.

iirc there was a police chase which resulted in detention for a few months.

Need to pull out the diary - iirc Heartbeat where on long before ICE.

iirc there where 3 fm transmitters available to RD

Getting back to Autism FM it is good to see the current trend in health information stations especially as there has been a lack of temps over the last while notably a lack of college stations

Heartbeat was indeed on before ICE FM, but what I am saying is that AFAIK ICE was the station Joe Doyle was involved with in 2003 when Eamon Cooke was incarcerated rather than Radio Dublin. It's a sensitive subject for Joe as well!

Were there any presenters on Autism during its recent run? I only heard music the couple of times I tuned in.

    I can think of two.
*DJ Bambi - did a 30 minute show which included Prince, Oasis and Jimi Hendrix
*Rench Trotter - counted down the most popular "Brony" songs at the moment.

Thanks for the clarification. At the time, I remember reading about 2 Heartbeats so I myself was misled. I didn't realise that Maurice did not make it to Heartbeat in the '90s.

When I saw Autism Radio I was really excited that it could be something really positive for people with autism. I’m disappointed that it was set up to take the piss out of stereotypical 4chan meme autism.

Can I give him the benefit of the doubt? He probably is autistic himself and wanted to do the show.
