ERIC BRISTOW has died at the age of 60 following a heart attack.

The PDC announced the news on their website that the five-time world champion passed away.

PDC Chairman Barry Hearn led the tributes to Bristow, saying: “Eric will always be a legend in the world of darts and British sport.

"He was a tremendous player and a huge character and even after his retirement fans would travel for miles to meet him and see him play."

At least he hit triple 20.

A nice character and a great ambassador for the game. R.I.P.

Just spotted this now as well. One of the characters you remember watching The Darts on the BBC back in the day.

    RIP Sir.

A sporting legend of my youth.

Had one of the best sporting lines ever.

In one championship he had beat a Welshman in Round 1, another in Round 2, another in Round 3 then was playing Leighton Rees.

In the pre match he said "if they hang around for another hour they can all head home in the one car".

    .

He would have laughed at that. :)

Ray Wilkins and Bristow gone in one day, two people who I watched a lot growing up. I'm beginning to feel old.

Awful news. The first real superstar of the game.

    60 is no age.

I hope he gets better than a fur coat or a share of a greyhound for year in the next life :D

(only people of a certain generation may get that joke)

    RIP Eric :)

He had another great one the time England played Scotland in a darts friendly in the 80s.

Bristow was playing Jocky Wilson when the hostile Scottish crowd started throwing cans of lager at him up on the stage.

Interviewer asks him afterwards did he get hit.

Bristow responded, 'No they're just like Jocky, can't hit sh1t'.

Well darts isn't exactly a sport with a healthy life style.

    Especially back in his day.

He was a very heavy cigarette smoker for most of his life, those fcking fags will get you one or the other in the end.

    I'm gutted. R.I.P. :(
The whole family used to gather round the TV for the big matches as a kid in the 80's. Always witty when interviewed. An immense character who, to me, was darts.

When Alexander of Macedon was 33, he cried salt tears because there were no more worlds to conquer. Eric Bristow is only 27. - Sid Waddell
