    Hey

This weekend, I want to see if I can do the following...

    - remove a small sized double glazed window pane from my kitchen,
    - bring it to a glass workshop
    - get them to cut a space for a cat flap

    https://www.petworld.ie/cats/cat-flaps/infra-red-4-way-locking-deluxe-cat-flap-500efs.html

    - install said cat flap
    - reinstall the window

how difficult is it to remove and replace a double glazed pane? is it just a case of removing the surround, prying it out, then when reinstalling the pane, ensure surround it with caulk etc?

Can you even cut a hole in a double glazed window?

    thanks in advance!

What material is the window frame? If its pvc its just a matter of removing the unit after you take off the surround. and reverse for putting it back. Dont touch it with caulk.

Re cutting the glass - I'd ring ahead to the place you intend bringing it before you go taking out the window. Cutting a pane down to a different size might be one thing (they score it and snap it to do this).... it might be diffcult however to cut out a full square and punch it through... They would probably need some type of laser machine?? (But i've no idea/experience of it to be honest)

    See here ...

The recommendation is to replace the glass pane with a new one rather than cutting a hole in the old one.

    thanks for the replies.

In heinsight, yes, I should probably get a new window fitted. I wouldn't say they can retroactively knock a new hole into a window, it would even have to be a few cm away from the edge.

I'll call into my local glass shop at the w/e

It has to be a new dg unit made as you have to cut the hole and seal around the hole with superspacer bar and then seal around the unit also.i have done many not always simple tbh

Why not just take the glass out and replace it with a sheet of plywood painted (white?) to match the frame? Obviously depends on how big the pane of glass is?

Isn't there a door you can put a cat flap in?
