    Hello,

How much is appropriate to put in a wedding card these days?

    Friend/colleague of mine from work.

Strapped for cash, and causing me a little worry, but shouldnt be a reason not to put a certain amount in?

What is reasonable? (going to chruch part. Cant go to the afters).

    Thanks

If you're strapped and only going to the church may I suggest giving nothing? I always looked at as a way of paying for your dinner at the reception, which you wont be attending. If you want to contribute, then 50e, anything above that is obscene as far as I'm concerned.

Personally I think if you're only going to the church, then 50euro in a card would be plenty and probably roughly the norm.

However you should only give what you can afford. You could consider giving a present instead (obviously not something along the lines of a toaster though). I'm sure even just a card on it's own would be appreciated - assuming it's not a bridezilla!

Thanks all-e50 was the amount I was going to put in.

    So bingo that's it.

A card and a bottle of champagne would be a lovely gift even if you went to the full wedding! The happy couple know that you will give what you can and wouldn't want you to spend money you can't afford!

I was told standard etiquette is 75euro per person attending, so 150 per couple ...This is why I generally don't attend weddings (If I am not super close to the couple getting hitched!!). Too much of an ask to give away that much of my hard earned money to be honest.

I always give 100 a head. This is different though as op not staying from the meal.

I would say no etiquette for church attendance and give what you can afford; 50 is definitely generous.

Just skip the church and boom, 75 quid richer!

I think 25 would be grand for only going to the church bit. 50 would be lovely, but a bit too much IMO.

Who wouldn’t like a nice card, and a pressie in it, and without sounding crass, for zero expenditure on their part. I’d go 25 OP. If you were flush, sure, go with 50. But I think 25 would be perfect.

The other thing is as it’s a work colleague, is there a collection in work? Could you all row in and give a tenner each and buy a really nice pressie / voucher between you? Not being scabby, but sounds like you are only invited to the afters. I’d think 50 is very generous for going to the afters, but you won’t be going to it!

If you're just going to the church I'd get a card a nice bottle of champagne to be honest.

When I got married, a work colleague of my husband came to our wedding on their own and gave us a gorgeous card and a fabulous wedding album. Loads of people were sending me on pics of the day and I printed them all off and I was delighted to have the album and it’s almost full, I really appreciated it.

    Give what you can.

Bottle of champagne is a great idea. No need for huge gift when you aren't going to the reception
