How to get Supplementary Welfare Allowance?

Hi, I have applied for Disability Allowance back in January due to the fact that I am unable to work or go to school at the moment as I have an ongoing illness. I haven’t heard back from them yet and I am currently left with no income. I live with my mother who is getting sick of the fact that I can’t help her out with bills and stuff and as a result, my illness is getting even worse. Am I eligible for supplementary welfare allowance and if so, how do I go about applying for it? If I do receive it, would I have to pay it back once I get a decision regarding my disability allowance? Also, will they take my mother’s income into account? I really don’t want to ask her for her details because we are on very bad terms at the moment. TIA

You should apply immediately to your local CWO. They just want your mothers PPSN.
If you are under 24 then yes your mothers income will be taken into account.
If more then 24 then it won’t.
Any SWA you get now will be deducted from your DA arrears that you will be due if your DA claim is successful.
So, your DA will be backdated to the date you applied and the SWA you get now will be deducted from that lump sum.
Contact your SW today to get the details of how to meet the CWO.

Will they ask me for her PPSN? What happens if I can’t give it to them as I don’t know it and genuinely can’t ask her for it? Also, could you tell me what CWO stands for? I’ve never been on any sort of social welfare payment before so il unfamiliar with the terms. Thanks so much.

Don’t worry too much about her PPSN. Explain to the CWO that you are not really on speaking terms at the moment. The CWO will take it from there.
The CWO is the community welfare officer. He or she is attached to your local SW office and part of what they do is make sure that people who have applied for a payment (like you) and are waiting , will have just enough to pay for basics while your application is being heard.
They are very experienced in dealing with all kinds of scenarios and yours is very common!
They have heard it all before OP!
Your local SW office will help you to set up an appointment with the CWO.
