that the number of people worldwide whose personal data was improperly shared with Cambridge Analytica is likely to be 87m

Up to 45,000 users in Ireland may have also been affected by the data breach

Users who might have had their data shared with Cambridge Analytica will be told of that.

    https://www.independent.ie/business/technology/irish-users-caught-up-in-facebook-scandal-as-number-of-those-affected-worldwide-swells-to-87-million-36776318.html

What recourse (if any) do the people effected have in this matter?

Is it just a simple facebook fine from the regulator or can each individual take a case against facebook for this breach.

I believe the matter is outside the standard T&Cs of " we may share your information with agreed 3rd parties"

Maybe someone with more knowledge can answer this?

What makes you suspect it is outside of that? My understanding is that the third party sharing the info is the issue.

The fact is considered a scandal, a breach or that they have admitted peoples data was "inapropriately" shared would mean that the standard T&Cs werent followed

Anyone can take a case if they want. But I’m not sure how anyone on individual would be able to show damages ... loss or anything else ...

In perhaps the most high profile Irish privacy case, there was no need to show loss.

Tip of the iceberg stuff, this is the business model of social media, period, i.e. we are the product, and this will never change

Clickbait (as per usual from Joe) . I should take a claim against them for distress.
David Barda, a data protection lawyer for Slater and Gordon reckons the amount would be less.

He said: "I think a much more realistic figure is £500 per claimant.

"The amount of compensation will depend on the level of distress suffered, but Facebook could be facing claims of up to £500 per Facebook user if those users were able to demonstrate their distress."
