    Hello

    I have a vw golf 2014 GTD
184bhp and was wondering at what milage is the timing belt due a change ?

I was also wondering what are the best makes for timing belt theses days...... Are gates still very good or have SNR, conitech, dayco or FAI
(All available on micksgarage.ie) to the same quality standard? Would it be worth paying the extra few euro for a genuine vw timing belt ?

    Thanks a million

I'd personally call a few VW Dealers and see if they have special offers on timing belts.
A few years ago I got a belt and pump done with a Skoda Garage on a 2l TDI all in for €350. It was just an offer they were running.

The engine I had was (VW PD170 BMN) 120,000 KMS or every 4 years. Don't know if that's changed.

The timing belt replacement interval is 210,000km.

The genuine VW timing belt kit parts are quite expensive for this engine as they don't as yet supply a kit, so each part is sold individually. The likes of a Gates or Conti kit are much cheaper and are just as good quality.

However when it comes to the water pump VW are actually much cheaper than aftermarket.

So we have been using Gates kits and VW water pumps on them.

VW don’t specify time limits for timing belt replacement. They used to but stopped doing so a few years back.

    Hello George

Would you be able to advise other general maintenance intervals for the GTD golf ? Such as plug changes, gearbox oil change etc

    Thank you

What would your opinion be on it ?
    Every 5 years ?
