    Hi,

I currently drive an 07 Jetta (1.6 Petrol) which is still in good nick, but owes me nothing. I’m looking to buy a decent saloon, relatively new in terms of years (I’m thinking anywhere from 2015 on) and with a low-ish mileage. Beyond that I’m open to suggestions. I don’t drive it every day but when I do, approx. twice a week it’s usually a long distance journey along the lines of Cork-Dublin so it would probably need to be a 1.6 anyway. I’m not enormously keen to get into a diesel with everything happening there but would go that way if there’s value to be had.

We changed my wife’s car a few months back for. 2018 Golf which has give me notions! In an ideal world I’d like the car to have most or all of the following:

-Parking sensors and Park Assist (the visual display)
    -Auto brake/hill hold
    -A decent ish sized boot
    -Apple CarPlay
    -Auto headlights/wipers
    -Isofix

Obviously the more feature packed the better. But above all, as I’m not really a car nut, look isn’t the most important thing. I just want a solid, reliable engine and comfortable drive that doesn’t cost me an arm and a leg in fuel. I don’t want to be repairing it all the time and, if I do have to get it repaired, I’d like to avoid a car that’s going to cost me a fortune every time it gets within sight of a garage.

Obviously I could stick with a Jetta (or perhaps move to a Passat) but would be interested if people feel there’s something better out there. From having a quick look around on Carzone stuff like the Kia Optima, Hyundai i40, Skoda Octavia and the Opel Insignia look okay, albeit I’d be interested to know what people’s experience of them is.

Anyway, hopefully people can give me a steer on what to look at/avoid.

    Thanks a mil.
