Mercedes Benz E Class towbar wiring question

    Hi all,
    I am presently fitting a towbar to a 2010 E Class Mercedes Benz ( W212 ). I will use a by-pass relay to avoid triggering any problems with the existing wiring. There is a fuse box located in the boot, drivers side inner 1/4 panel. I am trying to identify a live feed in this box that I can use to power the relay. Has anyone done this already, or can anyone tell me which connection I could use? I have attached a pic of the fuse box, if that helps. It can be magnified. Or maybe it needs a live connection from the fuse box under the bonnet? All advice / comments are welcome.

    I wouldn't go near that without a wiring diagram.

    Any time I have installed hitch wiring I ran a supply from the battery (via fuse).

    Hi Blackbox. In previous car's ( Skoda Superb and Skoda Octavia ) That's exactly what I have done, but wondering if it will be Ok to do it in a Merc? There is a dedicated harness that can be bought ( bit expensive though ) and it's a simple plug and play setup. In this, harness that the trailer socket plugs into, you have all the cables that you need, and I think that it's possible to connect to the live feed in this loom. Could be wrong on this though......for the lights etc, I can use the existing light cables on the relay box. If all goes to all, for sure I will run a fused cable from the battery back to the relay.

    They're already wired for it, there is a proper wiring kit for them - tells the car when it has a trailer attached ( probably braking stability ???)

    You have to connect car to computer and tell it that it now has a tow hitch

    Thanks gctest50, that's a good site you directed me to, very professional. I guess that the kit being used in the instruction is the proper wiring kit..and maybe I will have to go down that road,.but my question was how to identify a live terminal in that fuse box ( which the proper kit utilises ) and use the same by-pass relay that I have used in the previous car, and which is MB approved. This of course may not be possible, and then it will be the pfjones system.
