Would a main dealer do a pre purchse inspection on a private sale? Car is a 2016 with a fsh from said dealer.

Some will, some won't, you'll have to ask. They price of the inspection is sometimes not worth the grief it can generate. I'd say it'd be straightforward enough on such a new car though.

I shall enquire so. If they don't, what level of info would they give out about the car if asked? As in would they confirm they did the work on the service history etc.

What kind of car is it and is the car being sold the same marque as the dealer?

I would hazard a guess there is no need. Cartell check is pretty much useless at 2 years old unless the car was a uk import or you has suspicions it was crashed. If it was a write off a ford dealer wouldn't retail it.

Private sale though, I'm only hoping the dealer would inspect it for me as it was 'their' car.

Sorry, I totally took you up wrong. I thought it was a Ford dealer selling the car. :o

Give them a ring, I don't see why not. Maybe bring it to a different Ford dealer though. The dealer whom originally sold it may be selling the owner a new car on a straight sale and it may be in their interest to go easy on any issues it may have. In my experience of selling cars, that is VERY common.
