    Hi guys,

I have an old out house with a metal corrugated roof which was put up in the mid 90s, there is some leaking where the galv nails have lifted up, I've hammered them down as best I can but most of them are still leaking. Would anyone know of a good sealant or filler that could be also painted over?

    many thanks,
    B

They are rubber washers available for that job. Also black sealant but buy a good one.

If the nails are loosening, best solution is replace them with longer "timber tek" screws.
They grip into new wood and have a sealing washer as standard.
A good battery drill, or an electric one if power is near, and youll be no time at it.

The old nails should screw out with a vice grip. Replace with the new type with the washer.

Why so you want to seal them?

These are the seal's we used back in the day.
Should think they should be able to be get yet, ask some of the shed suppliers maybe have them but I would use them with timber tek screws as Nekarsukm says they will catch new timber.

Thanks Finbarrk, I'll give this a shot, I think this would be the best approach.

Bought a box of the washers in dairygold last year. Bought the old style rivets aswell found them better for repairing older roofs as they fill the old hole and seal in better than the tek screws did.

You can get the old style nails an inch longer too, they would fill the holes and go deeper into the wood for a better grip.

If the old nails are loosening there is probably something wrong with the timber.

the timber isn't too bad, I'm going to go for the old style longer galv nails with washers and i think I will be fine. Should do me for another few years :D
