HP laptop - RAM error

    Hi folks,

I'm hoping you can help me with a diagnosis. I have a HP 250 G5 i7 which I got as damaged having been dropped. When I plug it in, the battery charges and there is power going to the board. If I try to turn it on, the fan spins up momentarily.

The caps lock key light gives 3 long blinks and then a pause, which seems to indicate RAM error. (https://support.hp.com/ie-en/document/c01732674#ReseatMemory)
I opened it up and the RAm wasn't seated correctly, so I reseated it, performed hard reset and tested - no joy. I tried the other RAM slot - no joy.

I got a new RAM stick,(https://www.amazon.co.uk/Kingston-SO-DIMM-260-Pin-PC4-17000-unbuffered/dp/B015CVEN72) hard reset - same error. I can't see anything else obviously wrong with it, but I'm still getting 3 blinks when trying to boot....any ideas what I can try next?

Is the CPU soldered or socket? If the latter ensure its mounted correctly after its impact.

    URLs fixed...

Not too sure. I presume when you boot with the new RAM you are booting with only the new RAM right? The old one has been left out?

Try both slots (I'm sure you have). And failing that I would want to take out the board and examine it closely and look for cracks or anything else broken. It could be the motherboard which has failed in some way.

I don't have thermal paste so I haven't removed the heatsink, but it all looks still firmly in place.

Yes, I've tried booting with just the new RAM in both slots. I guess there is a good chance it's a board issue. i'll have a closer look at the board this evening.
