Data coverage is patchy so internet radio isn't an option

I've found a lot of them use the headphones as the antenna.

    Perhaps; http://amzn.eu/1N8wfx4
Goodmans Pocket Sized Digital & FM Radio with Speaker £34.99
The Goodmans Pocket DAB has a high performance antenna built in

Basically, you need a radio with an antenna built in.

Looks good but I'm in rural Ireland so DAB coverage would be poor.

From the description, it has two things you need; an inbuilt antenna, and FM radio. You need the FM radio as you're in rural Ireland, and you need an inbuilt antenna as you wish to use wireless headphones.

Here is something I would try myself with the devices you mentioned in your OP. Get a splitter like this one - they are available in those 2 Euro Stores. https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/3-5mm-Y-Splitter-Adapter-Jack-Cable-for-Earphone-Headphone-Mic-Audio-Extension/1988982454?iid=252300633986. Plug the splitter jack into the radio and plug the bluetooth adaptor into one of the 2 prongs, leaving the other empty. You could also try this with a basic extension lead if you had one lying around. I am not guarantee this would work but I have a hunch it might.
