Hopefully someone here on boards can help me, not sure where to post this
So I've just gone sale agreed on my first house it's in need of renovation, it's a long term project!
Anyway previous owner past away and his daughter is selling it and there is a mortgage of €8,000 left so my question is do I pay that (I can't afford it without a loan) or is it law that she finishes off the mortgage when she receives the money from the sale?!

you buy the house, the vendor pays off whatever is owed! How do you even know what the mortgage is?

You are paying your solicitor to do the conveyancing (transfer of ownership etc ) on the house you are buying. So never, ever, feel you cannot ask them how the process works. It is your first house purchase so it is all new to you. If they are not helpful - get a new solicitor.

    Best of luck.
