Stroke Support

A family member aged 42 (after 7 weeks of differing diagnosis) finally found out she'd a had a minor stroke. She was sent from Eye and Ear to Vincents for same. She is suffering with severe depression since the first week of this illness. I have been in contact with a friend in Tallaght who has suggested Rua Red support groups but she feels this wouldn't suit her due to ages of the groups and/or hearing horror stories. She cannot stop crying and is terrified of leaving her sister's side. She has very young children whom are being severely affected by her mood swings and depression and continuous crying. She is seeing an acupuncturists and physio and is on a three week waiting list to see a general pscyhologist. We are having an issue with her self diagnosing by internet, reading all those horror stories and making herself worse, but this now seems to be a compulsion. She is at the point where she is making herself more ill and we are at a loss on how to help her further.

Any advice on how else we can help her cope? Any experiences with same. Any advice on how to get her in to a psychologist earlier? and someone who deals with specific support?

At this point her depression is causing the whole family (Extremely close) to feel down and lost. The children are struggling too.
