How do you find out if the course is open - club website, social media, phone in etc.?

And how much notice are you given prior to the first tee time?

I'd imagine some clubs are different but my club will send out a text informing that the course is closed. If you're first out text might not arrive until you're on route or at the club.

I get an email from the club early in the morning if the course is closed.

For the early guys in our place, its the old school way - turn up and see what the decision is ! It'll be put on the website then, but the first 5 or 6 lines on the sheet will need to be onsite in case its open.

If there's a doubt we ring the pro shop and the Greenkeep has a message on it if it's closed.

Everyone on timesheet gets a text if the course is closed. No news is good news.

Not so simple IMO... Sunday morning at 8am and getting an engaged tone for 30 minutes was never fun.

I used to notify players at my home club via Facebook and a phone message system mentioned above but started a text message system this year and seems to be working much better so far.

Text sent out by 8am so as in only 5 Min away that's plenty of time for me.

    Email.

But I'm lucky enough to live only 90 seconds away so it's no biggy if I go down and it's closed.

I'm usually out early enough to be down and warming up before the pro shop opens and they send out any emails.

Message on phone system but as someone said earlier you would be en- route to course usually before finding out. .

Text message from the club via the online system, usually around 7.30

Not meant as a product promo but my club use their app. Greenkeeper logs on and updates the course status page which then sends a push to everyone that has selected course updates as a topic to be updated on.

    Free and arrives in seconds

We don't get anything, up to us to ring before travelling.

There is a course conditions section on the App which is updated regularly. Alternatively, when you ring the club number there is a "press 3 for course conditions" which is a recorded message of the conditions

Our place has some system where you do not get an engaged tone. No idea what it is or how it works though

This time of year message would be up by 6.45am

The "Early Golfers" don't care about the weather.

The most important thing is how quick they get round:D

During the summer the greenkeeping staff start at 6:30 and will inform the pro by 6:45 if the course is closed. Shortly after this (6:50) we update Twitter which also updates the front page of the website and the club app. Around this time we also update the phone mailbox with course information.

I can’t see how anyone can do anymore but as someone else already mentioned, early starters are well aware of the risks and usually know if the course is going to be unplayable.

Naas GC use Twitter. Best system I've come across by a mile for non members of courses. Killeen GC use it as well.
I'm not a member of either but live locally and anytime j want to play a round there over the winter I just need to check their Twitter before popping over. Every club should use it.
Was supposed to play Milicent in January - no notification anywhere that course was closed due to frost and my partner had traveled from Dublin. One line on twitter would have saved him a few hours travel.

Just out of interest did Milicent not have any recorded message up? Bad form if there was no information available at all

To be honest I think a phone system is the best with something like twitter or other social media as backup. Everyone can use a phone young or old, whereas not all would have or be interested in having correct apps etc on their phones
