Found a dog

I was out driving on a semi rural road this evening when I saw a dog on the road. I knocked into the only nearby house but got no answer. She's in great condition, looks like a well cared for pet. I brought her home.

I'm going to pop into <snip> tomorrow to see if she's chipped and put a note into the postbox of the aforementioned house. Any other suggestions what I can do to reunite her with her human?

Well done for minding the dog! Check if there are any local Lost and Found Facebook pages and post there. Let the local SPCA and the local vets know. Hope the dog is chipped and registered and can go home ASAP.

Well done for caring enough to pick up the dog. Any success today? If not here are some suggestions:

Bring to nearest vet to have it scanned for a chip (free)

Where are you located - phone (1) local dog warden (2) Guards in case its been reported (3) local rescues (4) Local Pound

Take a photo and post on all of the FACEBOOK pages for lost dogs - specific to your area, and then the national ones. There are heaps -
    Lost and Found Pets Ireland
    Lors lost dogs
    Kildare Pet Detective
    Irelands Missing & found

do ask for proof of ownership
Let us know how you get on?

Brought the dog to a local shelter to see if she has a chip but unfortunately she's not got one. They took a photo and my details in case someone contacts then.

I have her up on a lost dogs facebook page, a local one and I've been checking the others every few hours in case the owners have her listed. No luck

Tried again with the houses on the road today but no answers so I will try again tomorrow. Apart from that I can't think of anything else.

I see dogs in rural areas running loose often; never occurred to me to pick them up. Nearly gathered one in near tesco in one town as it was running in and out of the shop but the assistant told me the owner does that often

Hi eviltwin, be careful! There was a nasty situation in my area recently, where a kind person took a dog in off a Main Street in a town, as was in danger of being hit by a car. Checked with vet, no chip, rang dog warden, no reports of missing dog, asked in shops, took it to local pet store. Turns out dog had crossed the county boundary so owner/finder not aware of each other, as were posting on different county lost pet forums.

Anyway, kind finder ended up with Gardai at his door, with owner in tow and implications being made that he stole the dog. So instead of collecting a substantial reward, as had been offered, he felt labelled and judged to be a thief, despite spending a lot,of money on food, bed etc and making very reasonable efforts to reunite dog and owner.

Make sure anyone who shows up claiming to be the dog's owner shows you proof - photos of them with the dog etc. Lots of filth out there.

I meant to update this. I was contacted by the owner who saw a post I put on Facebook, dog has been reunited with its family.

Fakediamond, that is awful. Luckily the owner was really grateful, the dog had gotten out by accident and they were delighted to get her back safely. I can't understand the mentality of people like that owner you mentioned.

I know! I would be soo grateful,if someone found my dog and cared for it.

Well done to you, I’m delighted there’s a happy ending for all in this case.
