Debating between these 2 cars . Was originally looking at octavias but i much prefer the look of the superb . Is the much running cost difference between the 2 . Id be looking at the 1.6 diesel

Very similar running costs, wouldn't be too big a factor for me

The Superb is just bigger and more refined for the extra money. It's an professional man in a business suit earning $100k while the Octavia is like it's 23 year old brother following behind who just got a new job at an office earning $35k

I think if you can afford the extra cost of purchase and have no problems with the increased size of the car in terms of parking and stuff, then go Superb all day every day.

Bob flavin does a few good vids on these cars.

Superb is lovely and eats up the miles but is a lot more money for what many consider to be very little extra as an Octavia is so well specd these days.

Engines are the same so fuel very similar.

I'd lean towards a very well specd Octavia but I wouldn't say no to a superb!

Try and get a Superb in 2.0 litre, it's a much nicer drive than the 1.6 litre.

+1 on that, the 1.6 can be troublesome enough and wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding.

Superb all day long, its a far superior car in every respect.

Yeah comfort and refinement are streets ahead in the superb. I'd find a 2 litre if possible too.

Better still, forget the slow and noisy 1.6 diesel and treat yourself to the 1.4tsi petrol. It's a gem.

I have a superb and the wife had an Octavia .. both estates .. both the same engine and the superb is a vastly superior car

I'd go for the Octavia, maybe even the vrs model the 2.0 diesel would be similar to 1.6 diesel on fuel if you're doing long journeys it's the short trips that make them thirsty!
it's a beautiful looking car, skoda have been brilliant cars since vw took over

2 litre diesel automatic in an Octavia and superb ambition spec is 30 and 37 respectively.

Your doing a good bit of mileage so I'd be leaning towards the superb if I could afford it.

Knocking flywheel, egr valve sticking leaving the car undriveable ( Not a cheap fix there's no point in cleaning it) injectors can be troublesome too.

I tried a new Octavia and Superb.
Sales man suggested I try a 2.0 litre VW passat, which was on the forecourt.

The passat was two year's old, I said sure I'll give it a spin, no comparison...

Drove out a week later in the passat, it wasn't brand new but it felt right.....more money in my house.

    55 mpg on average....

    Wouldn't be no comparison......

You might have gotten better value on the used passat sure, but it's really just marginally better than the equivalent spec'd superb. Probably get more street cred for the logo though :p

Looked at both as well. Passat was nice but the Superbs boot and interior space made the Passat feel like a Golf by comparison. I know not everyone needs all that space though.

Have a Superb and with 2 small kids, the boot space is unbelievable. Economy is great in the 2L diesel and very comfortable. You're getting a Passat with more toys for less money

I’ve well over 300,000km done on a 1.6tdi and apart from servicing and the usual nothing has had to be done. It’s retuning just about 60mpg (measured by fuelly)

thats the biggest selling point for me the interior space is vast . im 6ft 5 and i find a lot of cars cramped but the superb is mahoosive . even the octavia is massive inside in it . my current car is a BMW 730d and the superb is bigger than it

im not a fan of the passat tbh i think the superb is a much nicer looking car and has a nicer interior . much more modern looking than the passat .

its something i could never figure out seeing as VW own skoda how they let skoda release such a better overall product than the passat.

I'd agree. The vw is more cluttered looking inside for me.

Couldn't agree more have a 2011 superb been faultless 300k almost and more practical with the hatch than a passat father in law has the new one even more space and more luxurious

Had the same decision to make last year, superb vs octavia. In the end went with the superb for a few reasons with space being the main one. Have rear facing child seats and they take up so much space that in smaller cars it renders the the front seats unusable unless you're less that 5ft tall. The superb is one of if not the longest cars out there as far as I'm aware. The octavia in fairness would've just about been okay but not very comfortable. Another reason was spec I wanted in octavia was not much less than a mid level superb which has an incredible spec for the money. Overall I'm very happy but it comes down to what you want from a car I suppose
