Offered role - but salary concerns...

Wondering you someone could offer some advice. I was offered a job last week – good role, interesting but a couple of ‘buts’….

While role is much more convenient to my home ( I had to work/live away a lot with my current role)…..Salary is less than what I had hoped. My current role is a shift position, so I get a shift allowance on top of my baseline salary. Eg salary 20k + 20% shift = 24k
The new company asked me what my current salary and shift allowance was – which I told them honestly – and my salary expectations which I put down as eg 20 – 23k ( expecting they would consider the 20% shift allowance on top of it – even though the new role isn’t a shift position). They offered me the 23k.
Figures above are fictitious btw – but delta between what I am currently on and what I am offered is approx. 2.5k ( less in new role)
My concern now is that I may have ‘undersold’ myself on my salary– overall package is ‘similar’ although I am potentially leaving a very good pension scheme ( akin to Civil Service ) to a standard corporate one.
I haven’t accepted the role formally yet – do you think I have any opportunity to request an increase in salary – or should I just leave it? The job I am currently in I really like, as I do the company – but the issue is it is removed from my family and is a lot of commuting, hence why I looked for the new role in the first instance.
    Advice appreciated.

How much does the commuting cost? Have you factored that into your calculations? Lower salary but even lower expenses = higher disposable income.

Regardless of that you should definitely ask for more outlining why you think you’re worth the extra money.

They asked you what you were on, you said 20k + 20% shift. They asked what you wanted, you said 20 -23k. They offered you the 23k.
You could renegogiate but with the risk that they'll say they can't afford it.
Always always come in with a number you can negogiate, not them.
If they really want you, they'll pay it.
