Anyone know if it's possible to hire out a topper for a quad bike?

You'd probably have to hire out someone who does the work with their own machine. No-one i know hires them out by themselves.

I have used both quad topped and cyclone topper on tractor, quad is a waste of time....... the tractor and cyclone will go anywhere because your driving on the rushes or grass rather than driving on cut ground

Why did you did it a waste of time did the quad topper not top properly? This field is v v wet the quad got stuck so can only imagine what would happen a tractor......

We have both flail topper for the tractor & mulcher for the quad and use both but on very different types of ground. If the rushes are hugely thick we'll try to get in with the tractor as the mulcher is slow at the heavy ones. But the mulcher comes into it's own for meadows and wetter fields to keep regrowth at bay. We've all our meadows and most of the pasture topped already whereas in other years we'd still be looking at rushes cause we couldn't get out.

Thanks.. have 1 for the tractor. But have rushes well under control with topping and lickin. So nothin too strong anymore. I am thinking a quad 1 would be the go now. Do you have to drive slow or can you blast on when topping with the quad?!

Have a quad one here. Its more or less useless in heavy rush. Stop go to cut heavy clumps. What it is great for is cutting regrowth and licked/dead rush. Can go out in almost any weather and cut places you might not bring a tractor.

Bit off topic. You say you have your rushes under control. What approach do you take? Lick then top then lick regrowth or top then lick regrowth and maybe top again.
Need to do something soon. Bit wet for topping here yet. Worried that if I top then regrowth will be ages getting to a height to lick them.

Might be a better discussion for the chat thread. If so then move it.

    Thanks.

Depends on the rush as Metheman says, heavy growth is a pain as it nearly needs one slow go and then a run over again to finish. But if you have the patience it works very well.
We licked all the meadows last harvest- Oct/Nov and so most of them were dead when we got to them this year. But we use it on growing rushes as well, just slower driving as they're not as brittle so don't break down as fast.

What would output be like on level ground with no rushes.
Disc mower here at the moment on the tractor, around 4 to 5 acres per hour.

Depends on the hp of the mulcher! Ours is about 3 acres an hour.

That's not bad output.....using a quad here for most of the fertilizer alot less ground compaction.

That's next on our list to get, only got a couple of meadows shook but still have slurry to put out so depends on weather. no great take off on them yet anyway.

I have the licker 10 yrs. And didnt need to use it last yr but she will be out again this yr!

Once they were good and green..on a hot day if we ever get 1 again! I licked with round up..both ways. Once dead..topped and did the same over and over yr after yr! Also sold the cattle so that could have helped in the process!

I can see with the way things are going with the weather a quad could be a very useful tool on a farm when it comes to grassland management.
