Packaging Variations on Games

I’ve only recently gotten back into Retro gaming but I seem to be picky about with versions of the games I get ie. The mega drive versions of games such as Maddens, Hockey, Desert Strike & Micro Machines I come across bundled or classic rereleased versions. However I refuse to buy until I come across the covers of the original games I had.

Does anyone else do this & am I heading down an expensive path?

Yeah I'd be exactly the same. Games have to be original, no 'greatest hits', 'classics' or what not. The box art tends to be pants on them and sticks some stupid banner/logo on the box.

I understand but, when it comes to a game I really love, I find myself wanting every edition.
For example, Virtua Racing, I have the PAL, NTSC/J and NTSC/U versions, because they look cool, despite being the same game.
But PlayStation games in particular look better in their original guises, rather than the Platinum versions.
That said, when it came to the likes of MuchiMuchi Pork/Pink Sweets I was glad to grab the budget re-release rather than spend the fortune on the original print.

Can we consider an Xbox port an 'original' release though? MuchiMuchi Pork is actually a Cave arcade PCB... :D
