Dublin to Istanbul at 10:50am. Best time to arrive in the airport?

Flight is on a Monday at 10.50am.

Just wondering if it's any different than flying to a regular European city or are there extra checks as it's outside the EU?

I plan to arrive at 8.30am. I will also have luggage to check.

8.30 is plenty of time. You could arrive an hour later and probably still be OK (not that I'd recommend it). Turkish Airlines usually use the Pier 3 gates which are the shortest walk from security in the airport.

9am, proabably. Two hours-ish for non-EU is usually the timeframe. Depending on where you're coming from, though, traffic will proabably be heavy at that hour.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

8.30 will be fine, I'd be more concerned about actually getting to the airport on time with traffic particularly if you have to go cross city or M50, if there's rain forecast or a crash you could easily add 30 minutes stuck in the car.

Turkey may be one of those countries which requires that there is a set number of months (usually 3 or 6) remaining on your passport. Just saying.....

It's six months validity on the passport from the date of arrival according to the Turkish government website. According to the actual evisa site it's 60 days validity after your departure date. Good luck figuring that out.

And you can get the visa online in advance (but you can also get it on arrival).

I'll be getting a 5am bus from Cork City. Will I be hitting the city at a bad time?

Not sure as I've never done it from Cork City. My initial react was cutting it a bit fine, but someone one of the other posters might be able to advise better.

As a regular user of this flight, check in won't open till 0845 at the earliest. Unless you like hanging around in queues there is no need to go be there any earlier. I always pick a seat online so there is no real rush.

I'll be checking in online so no need to join the queue, right?

Is there a place to drop my checked luggage or do I have to queue up at the check in line anyway?

No place to drop luggage, you'll need to join the queue. No point in checking in online. I regularly use this flight too. It's usually a full flight with lots of passengers getting connecting flights to surrounding and Asian countries so getting to the airport early is smart.

I'd recommend getting your Turkish visa online, if it's your first visit to Istanbul, the airport can be a little confusing and the visa desk is busy at peak times.

If your seat is confirmed online I fail to see what all the rush is about.

I like to check in early to dump the luggage. Then the rest is all done in go slow mode with no worries.

    Ok thanks folks.

It seems like 8.30 is a decent time to arrive then.

Otherwise I'll have to take the earlier bus and arrive at 7.30. feck that.

    Just a note for you.

Coming back to Dublin from Istanbul is different. You need to be at the airport 2 hours 30 mins min before your flight. Last time I turned up 1.40 mins before my flight, they didn’t let me check in my bags so I missed my flight. Keep in mind that you have to go through many securities there and the queues for the check in are very long as it would take them ages to check in one person.

Never had that issue before, I fly through the airport at least 4 times a year. It is a huge and busy airport but 90 minutes always is enough for me.

If you fly to LHR from Ataturk, the security theatre is a joke. There are 7 different security checks you must clear. You need to get the correct stickers on your passport and all the right stamps on your boarding pass. I can understand them turning away latecomers.

As I understand it flying to Dublin is not subject to the above. It is just standard passenger screening.

This is exactly what I had to go through.

If anybody's wondering, even arriving at 9.30 would have been fine. I sailed through check in at 9.30 after having a kip in McDonald's.
