Tuner or signal?

I've purchased two tuners recently to try and upgrade my in house entertainment. Firstly, I bought the Hauppauge WinTV-dual HD tuner however when I connected my antenna the quality of RTE 2, TV3 were terrible. When connected to my TV's the picture quality is great so I thought it was the tuner and returned it.

I then purchased a VBox XTi and the same thing happened RTE 1 fine but RTE2, TV3 and TG4 terrible

Can anyone explain why when connected to the TV (I've tried a few) it's absolutely spot on but that these tuners can't get the signal?

RTE1 and the other stations are on different multiplexes, on different frequencies and as a result there is likely a difference in signal strength between the two frequencies on your setup. The tuner in your TV may be more sensitive than the other devices and wouldn't have an issue with a lower signal strength.

What kind of antenna are you using?

TBH I’m not sure, it’s in the loft and feeding multiple TVs (Sony, LG, Philips) without a hitch. I just can’t get the feed to work on these tuners.

What do you mean a 'powered feed'?

OP, find the channel nos. or frequencies on which you are receiving RTE1 & 2, & compare them with those on the TVs with good reception.
