Hi everyone was thinking upgrading to transit custom due to baby on way and needing to keep a van and looking for bigger space was wondering what they are like reliability wise and fuel wise are they very heavy on fuel as there are 2.2 since I drive 1.6 and it's pretty light any info on them would be great thanks

The locks on them are very easy to break into, so if you’ve got tools or whatever it might be worth adding deadbolts. There was an issue with the checkstraps as well, the welds on the doors would split, was a major problem on the early ones.
Aside from that, I don’t have much useful info.

They have an excellent service Interval, I think it's 60 thousand kilometres.
I'm a taxi driver and lots of taxi drivers are driving them and are far happier with them than the dreaded transporters which aren't the most reliable to say the least and cost a fortune for maintain.

    P. S the engine size isn't a huge difference to fuel consumption. I've a 1.6 caddy dsg and get about 32mpg City driving and the transit lads are about the same if not better. A bigger engine doesn't need to revolve as much to produce the same bhp so it's a balance and not all about engine size.

I also seem to see them as lot of taxis they must have something going for them

In fairness you can't beat that Peugeot engine. It's one of the best ever made it's in everything.
Mechanics will say I have fix loads of those every week. That's because there is loads of those compared to others.
I had a Ford mondei once 2001 model and it was great but if I was to recommend a diesel I would always recommend Peugeot. The new traveller looks great. Especially with that Panaramic roof as an option.

Apparently there’s a modification that you can do so the back doors don’t unlock with the front.
