Painting external brick

The top of of our house is plastered and painted but the bottom half of our house is just brick. Unfortunately the bricks are a fairly ugly mismatch of browns. We've thought about getting them plastered over but the idea of painting over them has sprung up lately.

We haven't had a lot of luck finding any info on this online so has anyone done it? Is it something we could do ourselves or are there companies that do it? We would be talking about painting the bricks and pointing all the same colour.

Also did myself a few years ago and it has held up well. I used a paint roller with high nap then went over any leftover bare spots with a brush. I recommend to go over all surfaces with a stiff brush beforehand and/or powerwash.
