Herself is left with getting a car now, well not now as places closed till Tuesday, but ASAP

She had a Chevrolet Lacetti(though budget, not choice) and I think it was too long for her, would like to see her in a Toyota then maybe Ford as her father drives them

    SO
    • Toyota/Ford, after that "normal" brand, got tired of being told oh its a Chevrolet went wanted ANYTHING done
    • 1.4 or so, mostly just drives around the corner to work or around town then the odd trip from Navan to Blanch so doesn't need much power
    • Hatchback
    • 5 Doors a must
    • Nothing fancy, get in turn key drive etc, low maintenance as shes terrible at all that
    • Budget 5K tops, the Chevrolet was under 3K and ended up adding almost 1K on fixing some bits
    • Shes in Navan so Meath or even Dublin, or somewhere near those counties

I got onto the garage she got the last car from and got offered this for 4.5K, waiting for him to send over pictures

    Thanks for any help

I think you have a lot of options at that price range and in saying that, the auris looks like what you're after! A 2 year test, full service and 4 new tyres already, youre laughing. In saying that maybe you want something newer? Would you consider trading in the chev to knock another few quid off?

The Chev is written off, well to me it is, just waiting for word from crash place

The front and back got hit and coolant coming from engine, so id say easily written off

Ah, I see. I say no harm checking out that Auris on Tuesday, plus you have the whole weekend to search online!

I've read a lot of bad reviews about the Auris, I drive a Corolla, so I'm guessing its about the same?

The misses mother has one the last year and a half with absolutely no problems. 2010 one. We live not too far from yourself and she goes to blanch for work 4/5 days a week plus driving around the village.

Yeah you have huge choice and an Auris is a good one. At 5k for a 2008 though is it overpriced?
My brother got a 2010 1.6d focus with very low miles recently for not much more, think it was 5500.

He's bringing it down to 4.5k for being ex customer and what happened

I suppose in general secondhand cars seems to dearer with most people opting to drive them into ground than get done on trade in

Then the old Toyota usually dearer

Im sure theres better deals/cars but don't no where

Make sure it’s not on co2 tax.

Would you consider buying in the North?
    https://www.usedcarsni.com/2009-Toyota-Auris-TR-STOPSTART-VVTI-208571581?keywords=&make=30&model=2054005&fuel_type=1&trans_type=1&age_from=2009&age_to=2010&price_from=0&price_to=0&user_type=0&mileage_to=0&distance_enabled=0&distance_miles=50&distance_postcode=&homepage_search_attr=1&search_type=1&car_class=

The above example is a year younger, has the newer more powerful and fuel efficent 1.33 dual VVTi and has motor tax of only €280 per year. The TR spec is also higher than most Irish spec models.

    Cost £3650 = €4,200 + €974 (VRT).

The terra model the OP is looking at is the most basic spec too, and in flat red. Yuck.

Thanks for replies, but its need now and in the quickest way possible, she was saying no to ones in Dublin in case it had issues, so the North be a non runner(even though I know the north have some great cars spec)

How about this, main dealer, almost in the budget and fits the spec?

I know the 308 is 70% less flakey than the 307 but I wouldn’t bother with a 1.6 PSA engine or indeed any diesel.

Have you any links to cars you would buy?

Why not. I am looking to but a 2/3 year old SUV in the UK, Sportage or Tuscon. When I started looking I was looking for a petrol model but most of the SUV's are diesel even the brand new ones and the general consensus is that the 1.6 ltr petrol that the Hyundai Tucson does is just not powerful enough for a car that size. I suppose my point is that if shopping for an SUV diesel appears to be the best option esp if MPG is taken into consideration. Not a whole lot of options for petrol engines.

I’m saying no diesel for the OPs situation. It has its uses but is totally unsuitable for the OPs friend, and the 1.6 HDI is junk.

I had a 2008 Toyota auris as a second car and sold it last week for 3k, it was spotless, fully serviced with low miles and new tyres.
I think 4500 is way over the odds! Why buy a car of low-ish value off a trader? Very little goes wrong with Toyota petrols, and they are cheap to fix if anything goes wrong, no point paying over a grand extra for a 6 month engine warranty

    @TheBully

Just because we used him before and only Toyota he had, bit of a panic as shes no car at all and awkward relying on lift to get from Navan to Blanch etc

Deposit put on the Kia to be sure its there, she lives in Navan and works mad hours(plus the long long weekend)so cant get to it till Friday.

Hopefully this time next week she's back on the road and can put the crash behind her
