Did you know that 25m photos are uploaded to Flickr everyday?

And that of that 25m -just 25 are chosen by an algorithm to appear on Flickr's 'EXPLORE' thread that day.

No one knows how the computer 'picks the pics'- but it is apparently based on a decent quality photo- plus the perception by the ' flickr computer' that the phographer is 'adding value' to the overall Flickr concept( thanking/receiving thanks etc)

A pic of mine got picked on Tuesday- here is the pic- not my best by any means but you can see it has got over 4000 views - mindblowing!:pac::pac:

One of the strongest "identifiers" for choosing "Explored" images is if the tog has had a previous "Explored" image. It was a good few years before I got my first one - after that the frequency increased!

The first one is always the hardest!

    Congrats!

And apologies if I got the Explore criteria wrong - on review it seems that having a pic chosen is a bit easier than I had initially thought- silly me- I should have known:rolleyes:

    presumably it's shorthand for "photographer"

congrats on being chosen - very nice pic :)

"Tog" is short for photographer (I'm lazy). And however the images are picked it's not that easy. I have never figured it out but I'm always delighted when it happens.

    Congrats again.

    Fake news

Sorry, just to correct my first post

Five hundred photos are picked each day- it gives a 1 in 17000 chance of being picked

I think getting a POTW or HM in the random photos thread means alot more as it's from fellow photographers and no algorithms are used.
