Can you take back a job offer

So I was offered a job "trial " last week.
Nothing major, it was a minimum pay job.
I can't get employment anywhere so I'd do any sort of work for employment.
After the job trial had finished, the guy that was over me (he also interviewed me and gave me the trail ) and his deputy said 100pc the job would definitely be mine.
They said, when the new rosters done up they would call me with my hours.
So that gave me abit of a lift!
After I left work through the back exit there was 3 Garda cars there, which proceeded to follow me for a short distance .
Couple days late the guy rings me back and says Jonnie(Not real name) i got someone else for the job, AFTER SAYING IT WAS MINE!!
We don't get on, drug collision is rife in my area so I set up a blog and Twitter account highlighting what I knew about said colluding a number of years back.

Since then I've notice they follow me alot and I cannot for the life of me get employment and our country is thriving. Even when I'm with the unemployment agencies who treat me like muck.

And I know the gardai are blacklisting me in someway or smearing me cos I suffer constant shlt with them.
But is it actually legal to give someone a job and then take it back .
    Made me feel worthless .
