Sad to hear that P Smullen has fallen ill. They've discovered a tumour on a scan, thought he had gallstones, and he won't be riding for the foreseeable future. He is presently in hospital in Dublin Best wishes to him, let's hope he makes a full recovery and is back in the saddle again soon.

Nice touch by Davy yesterday. P started chemo on Friday, he seems to be very positive about the "Rhode" ahead. If all goes well he hopes to have the operation later in the year.

Very sad to hear. There's hardly a family out there that hasn't been touched by cancer over the years, so I think we all have Pat and his family in our thoughts and send him our best wishes for his recovery.

True story. Had cancer treatment myself in Vincents, woke up one morning out of morphine stupor to find Ryan Tubridy standing over me with a load of junior doctors. Honestly thought that I was either dead or dreaming. Turned out that it wasn't Ryan Tubridy at all, but his brother who was attending me. He was the total spit of him though.

I hope Pat pulls through. Only met him once, but it's clear he is a high class individual.

Christ that is a gut punch to have a set back so quickly. I'll be praying for him.

For a lot of people, they don't even get a fighting chance against cancer so if there is one here, no better man than Pat Smullen.
