Hi folks looking for recommendation on a mechanic in Dublin city or north county who's good with carburettors. Carina has begun stuttering under 2.5k revs after a long run, feels like a fuelling issue, possibly a blocked or dodgy pilot jet, but I'm only guessing. Thanks in advance.

If you leave the choke out a small bit, does the stuttering go away?

Automatic choke, but it does seem to be worse after she heats up.

Hi db, she's a 1989 carina ii with a 1.6 petrol 4AF engine, thanks for looking.

McNamara's in Ballybough are carb specialists.
Tell them Foxy sent you and you'll be looked after.

That's great news, they always have some cool stuff in there being worked on too.

The mechanic who looks like George Michael is a genius!

Let us know how you get on, I remember some of the Toyota's of that vintage were notorious for auto choke problems although it may turn out not to be a carburettor problem at all. There are many issues that can give the symptoms you describe.

I remember back in the day when I had an 89 Carina and it had much the same problem. Also at night if you put down the foot it would stutter and a shot of flame would come out the back.A change of fuel filter sorted it.

Thanks Mick. When i get home I'm gonna change the plugs and leads and swap out the rotor arm, and if that doesn't cure it I'm heading to Mcnamaras.
