House perimeter wall

    Hi,
We had to raise our site quite a bit for our self build. There is roughly a 5ft drop at its steepest around what will be the back garden. I was told that the only option is to put in a shuttered wall around the perimeter to cope with the weight of gravel that this wall would be supporting.
Ive seen other houses with similar raised site with just a standard blocked wall.
Anyone know if either is ok?
    Thanks
