Hoping to Build a house with a mortgage

    Hello All

I am hoping to build a house without having to get a mortgage. Has anyone ever done this before as a result of selling another property etc? How can one protect themselves legally and can it be cheaper. I would be hoping to get a small loan from a credit union or building society to finish off.

I could not find a thread related to this topic. Any comments / feedback welcome.

You need to hire a competent professional to design and inspect the construction work as it progresses to ensure it meets the building regulations.

Beyond that there's no reason why it should matter whether you have a mortgage or not.

Set it up in advance that the builder does not get paid at each stage until the professional checks his work.

Should cost the exact same apart from slightly reduced legal fees.
