Good value in LED bulbs for downlights

I have loads of downlights in the House with halogen bulbs. I would like to change to LED both for the energy usage point of view and to allow me to surround the fittings with insulation in the attic.

    1. As I will have to buy a lot in one go, do you have any recommendations for where I would get good value?
    2. What wattage/lumen value should I be getting?
    3. Am I correct in thinking that it is ok to go into the attic and cover the downlights with insulation once I have changed the bulbs to LED?

    Thanks in advance.

What are the current bulbs? are they 220V or 12V with transformers?

I usually just get the LED bulbs in Ikea, the GU10's.

The LED's still produce a little heat so wouldn't cover directly with insulation. I would put a coffee can over them or by one of the metal covers, then put the insulation over that.

The current ones are 220V. How does that transfer to LEDs?

Any idea where I would get the metal covers?

Sounds like you have GU10 bulbs. For a while I would only buy robus ones as the cheap ones the quality was very poor. Now the cheaper ones can be quite good, but i would be wary of the likes of Deals :)
