    Short answer: yes.

Long answer: if at any point during a purchase you feel something astray, walk away, your time is too valuable to be wasted that way. Have a look at the bangernomics thread here, I'm sure you'll find something closer to you that would suit your needs.

    Don't walk, run!

Anyone who won't allow a reasonable inspection on a used car cannot be trusted.

Probably bought it to flip it over at a profit and knows there is an issue. If they don't allow you to have it inspected then end the conversation straight away and move on to another car. I know it's a cheap car but if the car was in any way decent and they have nothing to hide they would have no problem with a buyer getting it inspected.

Price is defo too good to be true - you should be paying ~2k for a 06 Leon. €950 sets off alarm bells for me. Even more alarming that seller won't permit a mechanic inspection. Pass on this one would be my advice.

As a matter of interest, did they give a reason for refusing to allow an inspection or was it just a blunt "no"?

I don't think 12 year old petrol Leons are selling for 2k.

What people ask for them and what people actually get for them are 2 entirely different things. And the last one is a dealer which belongs in the dreamer thread.

From Dublin (although your location says London?) it is too far to travel to Kerry unless you are absolutely positively sure it is a great car.

There should be plenty cars around Dublin that will suit just fine.

Seems clean enough that one, same engine as Leon or a3 of that mk.

If I were you though at that price point I'd go for something like this

    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/2008-peugeot-207-taxed-amp-fresh-nct/18357966

You'll find them newer, with lower miles cheaper tax and insurance and much easier engines to fix if something goes wrong.

This is a petrol but might take your fancy,

    That 05 golf looks tasty

I sorted them by newest, like poster above said there are bucket loads of them it's just being able to put the time into checking them out and making sure your not getting a lemon.

    Did you read the advert?

"Clean sport version. All working..Currently in use. Alloy wheels. Sport exhaust..full body kit. Very clean car and worth looking at. No silly offers..thats an 2006 vehicle well kept with full body kit. Need it gone but if no offer will keep it just for show off...It needs nct and new tax. Failed nct due to rear brakes and a small hole on the exhaust. No dents no cracks..never in an accident. Engine 100%.No faulty lights?..new set of 4 tyres.on nice oroginal alloys. No reasonable offer will be denied..but wont go too low than the asking price. Recently serviced with new timing belt changed...cheapest motor on donedeal...just check for yourselves...."

You're scraping the bottom of the barrel with a car like that. A recent change of ownership is the least of the things you'd have to be concerned about buying something like that.

I wouldn't touch a car that age that didn't have a valid, fairly fresh NCT.

An NCT is a little over €50 - any seller would put a car through NCT if they were confident of it passing.

You can't drive it without it having a valid NCT - how are you going to collect & bring home a car you buy without an NCT?

The seller added information after someone (you, or someone else) asked some questions. Fairly normal stuff.

I can't find a single 1.6 Petrol engined 'Sport' of similar age and mileage for anywhere close to what they're asking.

You either pay up and buy a car that's 100% or you pinch pennies and buy something needing some effort and carrying a bit more risk.

So, not really sure what else it is you're expecting or asking for here, to be fair.

It failed. It needs rear brakes and an exhaust leak sorted. Could be cheap, could be expensive. That's why the car is being sold for buttons.
