    Hi

Looking for comments on reasonability (or not) of the following quotes (parts and labour) for an 08 - Audi A3 Diesel from a garage in Dublin:
Alignment of wheels / lights 100e
    Change Break Fluid €100e
    Spark Plugs €200e
    Rear Break Pads €270e
    Many thanks

Rear brake pads 270, sounds like a lot.
In fact it all sounds like a lot. Even for an Audi in Dublin

Do you have an itemised bill? What brand pads were used?

Way too expensive. Wheel alignment should be around €40, lights around €20.
    Change Break Fluid €100e
    Probably OK.
    Spark Plugs €200e
On your car, this should cost no more that €0
    Rear Break Pads €270e
Way too expensive. €100 with labour probably would be okeyish.

Thanks for the replies, just got talking to the garage there so:
That should read glow plugs (apparently €45 x 4)
    It's rear brakes and discs

    Yes that makes more sense.

I still think the price is rich for things like the alignment, especially given that you are getting other work done. I presume this isn't an Audi dealer you're at?

    Some are saucier than others,

€100 for a laser four wheel alignment and headlight alignment is not the cheapest but it is ok.

€100 for a brake fluid change is very strong. Half that is about the norm.

€200 for 4x glow plugs is decent.

€270 for rear brake pads is also a shade expensive.

I'd assume you are in a main dealer with those figures. If you are then the prices are about right for the environment you are in but are more expensive than they need to be for a ten year old car.

10 year old car shouldn’t be going near a main dealer!

It's Atlas in Drumcondra. €190 odd for the full service, and then these on top so fairly expensive then.
    Thanks for the feedback.

The first question I would ask is did your car need these things doing?
A lot of these garage chains tend to up sell.
Did you agree to all this work? Why were glow plugs needed? Did you report any issue?

Very expensive. As a comparison we are €45 for brake fluid change, set of glow plugs about €100 (assuming 1.9TDI) Rear discs and pads €135. Ok we don’t have to pay Dublin level overheads but even allowing for that I think those prices are OTT.

It's in for a pre-NCT service. In fairness, fully transparent. Reported the Glow Plugs and Brake Fluid based on tests but suggested weren't necessary. Waited to have our feedback on all work, and went through all the issues with me on the phone (originally had spoken to the missus). Also reported faulty rear wiper, and quoted 75 but recommended not to bother as not necessary for NCT and as it's a known fault with the model we would be back in with it in 12 months time.
Is that parts and labour George?

I dont think there is any reason to do the glow plugs unless they are not working in which case a message will popup on the dashboard saying "emissions workshop"

There's a good chance you don't actually need the rear discs.

Audi dealers seem to tell everyone they need discs.
