After effects of snowmageddon

Hello everyone

Does anyone have an idea what those dark spots are and should I be worried?

The spots started to show a few weeks after the double snowmageddon event and only in the bathroom. At first I thought it was mould (because Ireland's crappy houses and mould go hand in hand) but it's definitely not mould. I've taken some mould cleaning products to it and that did nothing.

I've pressed against the spots and it's not soft nor is what's left of the paint showing any signs of peeling off.

The darkest spots are at the top of the bathroom and become lighter the closer to the floor it gets.

My guess based on the linearity positioning of the spots indicate that it's possibly the Wall Studs? Perhaps they are rusting?

Could it have been where a curtain rail was previously mounted, and was later taken down and filled in?

Thanks for this. Did some research and it coincides with what you said.

It does not look like a serious issue that I need to worry about. It's a rental property so I'll mention it to the landlord. The structural integrity becomes an issue in a few decades time though, but for now it's not my problem

This excuse of a *cough* house *cough* was built during the crash.

There are plenty of signs that the completion of the house was rushed so the chances of galvanized screws / nails being used is next to nothing.

if they were not hammered in deep enough, and If they only had filler over them, someone could have sanded the galvanized coating too.

Galvanised isnt full proof, too many people assume that.

I've read before that the problem could be if the walls are hollow cavity blocks that a damp breeze could be blowing through the hollow mushroom fixing causing condensation on the head of the fitting that then causes a damp patch .

I've seen this problem loads of times on walls l think this could be the problem its not rusting fixings imo.

I just noticed that these have appeared on my walls as well. Should I be concerned? House is approx 40 years old.

No if you paint 1 or 2 coats of Bin Primer over the spots then repaint the walls they will disappear
