Practical distance between oil tank and boiler

    Question for oil heating guys.

    Currently have an external oil boiler Firebird Heatpac about 15yrs old located externally and away from house, oil tank is located beside it.

    Have a water leak somewhere (system has to be topped up every few hours) and and am sure its underground outside - water pipes run about 15m from boiler to house.

    Have been nursing heating system through the last few weeks, so am starting to look at options going forward.
    One is to relocate or replace with more efficent oil boiler, to external wall of house. Main issue i think would be distance to oil tank.
    In your pratical experiences what would be a working distance between boiler and tank.
    Tank would just be sitting slightly higher than boiler above ground - if it makes any difference.

    Am also considering a gas installation.
    Anyone care to give a ballpark figure to supply, install, commision a quality boiler - would involve some plumbing as well.
    I assume BG would have to run a connection from road to house and install meter etc - any idea what they are charing in Dublin area!

    Thks (sorry for double post - getting greedy)

    Distance would probably be 25m - was thinking of something like Hydrodara pipe with oil pipe inside for protection running between tank and boiler.

    If you're relocating the boiler could you use one of the unused water pipes to feed the oil line through. Put a tiger loop on the oil circuit and distance shouldn't be a problem.

    It’s just a suggestion. It could save the op the hassle and added expense of digging a trench to lay the new oil line.

    Oh I know! And I’ve often thought about done by it myself. I was looking for feedback more than anything else to see if it was possible
