I bought a new abbey fertilizer spreader wagtail, what setting do ye put it at to say spread 1 bag to the acre. The book that came with it, the setting doesn’t seem to be that accurate, it says set it at 4 to spread 52 kg per acre but at that setting it seems to spread a good bit less the 52kg. What setting do ye use??

All depends on your forward speed

Yeah the forward speed I’m using is 10kph spreading at 9metres as its says on the book but it still seems to be spreading less than the 52kg.

Go into a small field, 1 or two acres and work it out. Settings on those are never accurate with different fertilizer. I’d always half lap when spreading too as trying to work in odd shape fields always leaves streaks where you think you’ve covered.

540 RPM on the PTO shaft is the starting point, so make sure you have the engine revs and PTO gear selected right. After that pick the forward speed gear for the tractor. Check the height from the ground to the end of the pendulum.
After that it's just the spreading width and the opening in the spreader (dosing rod). Do you have a socket set. I find them good to judge the opening in the spreader. If you have the old spreader, find the socket that fits best teh opening in the spreader and set the new one off the socket.
