My car was written off a few years ago and ever since I've been sharing a car with my mother. However, I have recently graduated and moved across the country for work so I REALLY need a car of my own now.
I'm not sure what kind of car I should get to meet my needs hence, I am here!
I'm hoping that you fine people may have some suggestions to point me in the right direction.

In terms of budget I'm thinking between €3-4k however, I'm also thinking of going back to college next year so it might be best to get a super cheap run around to do for this year as I need to save money?

I'm also not sure if I should get a car instead that would suit all eventualities such as a job change or going back to college since I'm only beginning my career so it's very likely circumstances will change in the near future?

I also want something that won't cost an arm and a leg to insure, is above all super reliable and cheap to run and also has a good saftey rating/features.

The type of driving I would be doing is mainly a 10k commute on R type roads in urban areas and other N road type driving for day trips etc I also drive to/from Kerry-Dublin each weekend so I'm not sure how much I should factor this in?
I'm currently doing this in a yaris and comfort wise it's just awful!
Hence, I have been leaning towards something like a 1.4/1.6 hatchback petrol Toyota auris or Ford focus >2008 with a long NCT.
However, I'm not sure if financially and practically these type of cars make sense given that I MAY be returning to college next year and need to save money?
Would I be better off getting a small 1l despite the drive to /from Kerry each week (and the awful country backroads) ?

If anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated :)

I'd probably go with something like a Toyota Corolla hatchback 1.4 petrol circa 2006 to 2007. They are very reliable, not expensive to insure and good on fuel.
