Would you consider Aldi? They have a lovely french pinot noir and Spanish red 'Toro loco' at the moment. Both soft , fruity, easy drinking.

    Kendall-Jackson Vintner's Reserve Merlot €27.95 in O'Briens.

"Serious Merlot from Kendall Jackson, structured with lovely fruit expression, big on fruit and structure but not heavy. Very accomplished.Like good right bank Bordeaux but with a sweeter edge."

My favourite 3 reds are Santa Rita Malbec, Cono Sur Merlot and Sangre de Toro. All priced usually at €10 or less and widely available. All very easy to drink I find.

And Tesco have 25% off any 6 bottles of wine at the moment - am sure they would have the ones listed.
It includes the mini bottles. So a great time to sample a range of wines.

O'Briens usually have Amerone Valpolicella for around the €35 mark. I wouldn't describe it as sweet but definitely smooth, easy drinking and full bodied.

The Apothic Red, as said above, is definitely on the sweeter side but one of my favourites. Have a glass beside me as I type in fact.

It's pure coincidence that the one's I love are usually the one's that are on offer, but it does make them taste that bit sweeter! :D

    .

Have only had their Pinot Grigio and
    Prosecco and both were good.

Let us know what that is like.

I think the grand reserve is a cabernet so will be more savoury ... probably stick to the merlot for softness.

If you want to try a quality Californian cabernet, this one is on offer at €16.95

Yes, have had that one... rich, inky... almost a dessert wine half ways towards port. Defo one to try if you haven't had that sort of Italian wine.
