Oil in plug wells

    Hi all,

I've a 15 year old ford focus 1.6 petrol with oil in all 4 plug wells. So far the bit of reading about it suggest to replace the rocker gasket seal.

Are there any seals around the spark plugs and if so how would you rate the difficulty of the job. I will hopefully be doing it myself as I don't want to spend a lot on it, apart from a buying a couple of seals if that's all it is, hopefully.

    Thanks.

Is it possible when oil change or topping up someone over filled

That is possible. That happened a good while ago though, so assumed it would have burned off by now. This oil is all around the electrode part of the spark plug which is why I was thinking maybe it's seals or the rocker gasket seals. :/

    They were a terrible design.

Possible but the 1.4 was worst for seals.

Usually eat through coil packs and plugs across both.

Best way to know is dry it all out and replace plugs and keep an eye on it. Water also gets in especially in very bad weather or washing engine bay.

rocker cover gasket is leaking most likely and is a very easy diy fix i you are anyway handy , buy a decent quality gasket when replacing

    This^^

    Genuine Ford
    Reinz
    Elring

They are the only brands worth using. If you buy any other cheap brand gaskets you may as well not bother doing the job.
