It is assumed ALL these were formed during or after a significant world war between 2 superpowers. Oil states fell and other states consumed weaker states. Dictatorships rose in many former developed countries. America is caught between a war between democratic state based in California and the Holnists and Republic of Gilead. It assumed the latter 2 are allies against the insurgency against fascist theocracy. Australia seems to be a warzone between the weak provisional government seen in the world of Mad Max 1979 and the warloads seen in all 4 Mad Max films. Immortan Joe emerged as the most powerful and was part of the world war.
