Employment contract

    Hi,

    I have written up an Employment contract for my new (first ever!!) Employee.
    I have done lots of research into it to make sure it contains everything it needs and suited to my industry as well.

    Is it a requirement for me to bring this to somebody that Specialises in Employment Law (solicitor) to "approve it" for the want of a better word? Or does it legally stand if the two of us sign it with a witness?

    No you're good once both of you sign it, a witness is a good idea but not necessary. If you're to bother with a solicitor it would to be to look over the contract itself or to draw up a disiplinary/grievance policy

    Any one got a good Template that includes the key headings that are needed for an employee contract....???

    Terms of Employment (Information) Act 1994 outlines the key terms you have to cover, but im sure theres templates on line as well

    Best of luck in your business and on creating your first job.

    If you are starting a business you need a solicitor and an accountant. Have your solicitor advise on all contracts. Trust me on this

    Some trade associations, chambers of commerce, etc. will have standard contracts that their members can use.

    Wouldn't it be better to have someone take a quick look?
    I'd be inclined to have a probation period or some way to terminate employment.

    I remember a story in the R&R thread about a startup company that hired a graphics designer on a year contract for a specific project. The project got canned but they had no mechanism to let the designer go or move him to a different project. So he got paid for a year to do nothing.

    There is more work “taking a quick look” at a non legal persons contract than drafting from scratch.
