Is this comp from last November? Don’t think Foreign Affairs are part of that.

Yes, I just got a phone call mentioning the various departments and Dept of Foreign Affairs is one among them.

Wouldn't know about Dfa. I worked in Revenue It before and it's a very fast moving progressive modern work environment.

Are you sure you get to pick? We were all just told what department we were going to in last competition

MAX you dont to choose you will be assigned to one of the dept. it can also be diffrent from the ones listed as i know my office has put in for a EO/ICT from this panel
If i had the option it would be Revenue hands down

If you have a choice, Revenue for career opportunities/experience imo according to friends who have worked there. DFA could give you travel opportunities depending on the exact area in IT you are assigned as sometimes they need IT people to do some travel to set up offices etc. or the larger locations may require full time IT support staff. Not sure how their IT is these days but they had some projects with the passport side in the past.

Also consider office locations, being based around the green may be nicer compared to possibly being stuck over bus aras with social protection HQ.

Yes, I was phoned up and told to pick an option. I replied to send me the options. So I got the above options via email. Have to choose one by this weekend and convey that via email.

My choice would be either Revenue or DFA.

Also I prefer a small / medium office rather than supporting 1000's of people.

    Also dont like travel.

I work in revenue OP, and have done for the last couple of years, I generally find it a good place to work, plenty of scope for upward movement over the next few years too as I believe something g like 50% of ALL Staff are due to retire in the next 5-7 years.

On the IT side I know some of them are based on George’s street and some are based in john’s road down by heuston.

I’m not too into tech stuff but there always appear to be interesting IT projects on the go.

Revenue have tonnes of data and they are always looking for ways to use it for compliance etc

You could do worse anyway. Hope it’s of some use.

    Revenue

References / Garda Vetting / Original Educational Qualifications validation checks etc happening now. Might take some time to finish all this.

Any one in the same situation?

Heard that Revenue is very busy always. Any one of you working at Revenue?

Is the working hours at revenue 9.00 am to 5.00 pm?

I worked in IT in Revenue and continue to work there in another division & location now. Work in the IT division is wide and varied, development, live support, testing, databases, networks etc, it's all done in-house (technically), so theres plenty of scope. The hours are the same as in any civil service dept/office with flexi-time.

Start anytime between 8 and 10am , lunch anytime between 12.30pm and 2.30pm and finish anytime after 4pm, but you must work your 39.5 hours a week less half hour lunch each day.

That said, you can't start at 10am go on lunch at 12.30 to 2.30pm and go home again at 4pm everyday or you'd have only worked 20 hours at the end of the week. You could work these hours one day, and start at 8am the next day, take a half hour lunch and work until 7pm to make up the hours.

If you want flxebility in your working hours, it's the way to go!
